Together with Professor Stephen Weatherill (University of Oxford) and Dr Jan Exner (Charles University Prague), Dr Jan Zglinski has published . The authors argue that sport needs reforming and that the EU can contribute to effecting positive change. They call for EU rules on good governance, human rights, social responsibility, as well as better protections for athletes and fans. These would be implemented by an EU Sports Agency and national counterparts.

has offered its full support to the proposal, with Nicholas Mc Geehan, the organisation’s co-director, stressing that: “The evidence in favour of imposing regulation on dysfunctional sport bodies like FIFA is now overwhelming and with this clear-sighted and visionary paper we get to see for the first time what that could look like in practice. When scholars of this calibre propose measures of this nature, policymakers in Brussels should pay attention.”
